The inauguration of President Obama. I'm fortunate enough to be tuning in from work and I can't wait to get home and show Baby Charlie the taped ceremony. Part of me was tempted to go grab him from daycare and let him watch it with me live, but I'm sure it will have the same effect if we just watch it later :)
Not that I expect him to remember this whole event, just that I'd like to one day be able to tell him that he was a witness to history. I can't even find the words to describe how hopeful I am today.
don't take this the wrong way, but history? i know so many people that didn't call the last presidency history but now they are calling this one history... please excuse me if i am in the wrong here but could some one explain to me in a non racial way why this is history?
ReplyDeleteUm, how is it not? You can't untangle race from any situation in our society. Of course it's history, we've just elected our first non-white president. How is that not a sign of how far our country has come? 20 years ago, hell, probably even 8 years ago, we probably wouldn't have had the open-mindedness to elect someone who didn't fit the mold. This truly was an historic event, the same way it would have been if it had been Hillary Clinton elected to the office, as the first woman president.
ReplyDeleteAnother point I thought of while driving into work today - it would have been an historical day even if the election had gone the other way, as Gov. Palin would have been sworn in as the first female vice-president. See? Not a democrat/republican issue, but a human issue.
ReplyDeleteThere is history all about this inaugaration. It doesn't matter what color you are - it's history. You tell her J!
ReplyDeletei guess if you will see it that way, then maybe i am colorblind. i have personally never seen a reason to to set aside differences good or bad. As long as there is positive or negative racism will never truly be "untangled from any situation in society, that is a choice we all make. sorry for being simplistic.
